Many towns in the CitiPIX (Kodak) aerial photography coverage areas have
reaped the benefits of this latest flyover. Portland, South Portland,
Falmouth, Freeport, Westbrook are among the growing list of municipalities
to use this new imagery...and now more sign up...
The Town of Scarborough and the
City of South Portland also recently contracted BCI to map their entire
towns at the 5’ contour level. This map data along with digital orthophotos
will be available to all the towns departments assisting them in managing
the towns’ assets and growth. Bradstreet will use digital imagery captured
on April 29, 2001 by Kodak Global Imaging. Under contract with the Greater
Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG), Kodak supplied thousands of digital
images along with the necessary aircraft positional data enabling precise
maps to be compiled for each of the towns covered by the imagery.
The Town of Cumberland is the
latest town to sign a contract for photogrammetric mapping with BCI.
These maps will form the basis for the towns Geographic Information System
or GIS. GASB34, a federal accounting standard
relating to publicly funded infrastructure created the original need for
this mapping. The many other uses for the map data include water /
sewer planning, zoning, wetlands, E-911 viewshed analysis, island and
waterfront management and tax mapping.
